Events at Sea

The following is an outline of the proposed Guernsey Regatta 2008 programme. As in previous years we offer a relaxed programme of racing which we hope will encourage all visitors to take part in. The tide has also been kind to us this year and should allow you to leave your berth, race and return to your berth on the same tide.

John Elliott of the Guernsey Sailing Trust will be running the sailing events for us again this year. As in previous years the dayís race and course will be discussed at the race briefing. We have been known to change the course on the day but this is always done in discussion with the crews taking part and dependent on the number of boats taking part, the wind and general weather conditions.

The Regatta is taking place over the same weekend as the UIM Class 3 World Offshore Championships. The powerboats will be racing on the Saturday and Sunday, which has affected our racing programme but we have been working closely with them to make both events work. Please note therefore that there may be changes to the events listed. If you would like more information about the Championships please visit their website

A prize giving will be held each day at 1800. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed boats.

A full race briefing will be held on the morning of the each race. If you intend to race a member of your crew must be present to confirm the course and sign the race sheet.

High water is detailed for each day, please see the information page for further details regarding access times over the sill to the Victoria Marina

Pilotage course

The pilotage course has proved to be very popular in the past and we will be running it again this year. John Elliott will be taking the course and we are currently investigating the availability of boats. The course will be run on either the Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the tide will be low and will allow you to see the rocks that make sailing in these waters so challenging. There will be a charge for the pilotage course.

Concours díElegance

The Concours díElegance ñ our boat beauty contest ñ will also be held over the weekend. Prizes will be awarded to the best boat and runner up in the following categories: pre-1970, 1970-1989 and post-1990.
